New Umbrella

We have a new umbrella for our west facing deck. It tilts so we can use the table and chairs longer into the day. We like to eat breakfast and lunch outside, but don't like sitting in too much sunshine. So this tilting gadget is just what we needed. I  have been reading out there until just a few minutes ago. It is now 2:48 PM. It was delightful.  I was reading last years December edition of the magazine  REAL SIMPLE. Maybe looking at pictures of Christmas Trees and Winter pictures helped me stay cool too.

A Determined Flower

Driving through our little town the other day I saw this Hollyhock growing out of the sidewalk up next to a mail box. It is lovely and has bright red flowers on it. This flower is what I would call an old fashioned one. I can picture them growing close to a little simple home along with a lilac bush and maybe a rose or two way back when this town was young. I bought some seeds today and will try my luck with Hollyhocks for next year.
